Each month, new software is highlighted here to help address computer needs at various levels.
There are many more besides these available at the download page itself.

The startup primary/"must-have" programs are grouped together as a reminder to get them first.
They're needed for creating your own family trees, as well as opening and viewing census files.
It seemed obvious that they should be the first ones highlighted here.

The links simply take you to the download page.
Once there, choose software from any of the categories.

Most of the software programs have separate platforms available for windows, mac, linux, etc.
Many of them have several versions for different levels of operating systems as well.
Choose the one you need from the lists shown on the download page.
Items listed here are capable of performing very well for most users and well worth using.

This Months Highlighted Software:

Musical progress bar software.
Plays songs or readings whenever a progress bar is used.
During downloads, disc cleanups, file transfers, etc.

Extremely helpful in that you don't have to keep coming back to check if it's done.
Hear it from another room while doing other things. Music stops when the progress is finished.

The family tree software is not only capable of building the tree you see here on the web,
It can also import from other genealogy software to expand your members.

The viewer is necessary to see the census pictures saved in this format for high resolution pictures.
Use of this software method makes the clarity at high-end magnification is absolutely astounding!

The file opener is a specialty tool that allows unpacking of the specially formated zip files.
Whether downloading the folders from the internet or from CD, this special opener is required.

It is more than capable of being used to run a full time business and is used almost daily here.

Anti-virus protection is a serious part of todays online expierience.
So critical that all are recomended/highlighted-Choose any one you like.
There are trojans, worms and more that can destroy lifetime project files.
Some types steal identity information and track your keystrokes and site visits.

There's even a fairly new type called "Ransomeware".
They hijack your standard file formats and change them to their own proprietary ones.
If you want to open the files again, you have to pay them-They'll be back if you do!
Why not block them BEFORE there's trouble?

There are several program tools to choose from in the download section.
Windows platforms only currently, but more are available to add if you need them.

Anti-Virus Programs


Zip file compression software.
Using a memory card or thumbdrive for genealogy is handy, but their space fills up fast.

There are a few ways to help extend those limits, and this is a very low impact method.
Other methods might render files or drives useless, or require formatting and deletions.

Compress individual files on an "as needed basis" and for a variety of reasons.
Save time and space on hard drives, flash drives or when uploading and emailing.
An excellent way to conserve disc space until the file is actually needed.

Also opens other type zip files sealed by similar programs as well.
